Three things about this system are worth understanding before you buy, because they’re what make it different from a fixed bedside panel:
- It isn’t locked to one location. The panels can mount in a number of places on the truck. The rail interface is the same everywhere, so the install concept doesn’t change with the location — only where you choose to put them.
- Panels work alone or ganged together. Run a single panel, or join panels into a larger continuous surface using the connector pieces included in the kit. Each connector takes two bolts, one into each panel it joins.

How the panels actually mount
Each panel picks up the truck’s extruded rails at two locations using T-slot hardware. That’s the whole interface, and it’s worth understanding because it explains what this system can do that a drilled or fixed-hole panel can’t.
T-slot hardware drops or slides into the channel of an extruded rail and locks when you tighten it. Because it locates by sliding rather than by a pre-drilled hole, the panel’s position along the rail is continuously adjustable — you set it exactly where you want it rather than where somebody else drilled. It’s the same principle as machine-tool tooling plates and 80/20 framing, and it’s why the kit can work in more than one location on the truck without a location-specific part number.
Three consequences worth planning around:
- Two rail points per panel is the baseline mounting. Locate both before you tighten either.
- Connectors join panels into one surface. Each connector piece takes two bolts, one into each panel. Assemble ganged panels on the ground, not in the air.

Plan your load-out before you mount anything
Decide what’s going on the panel first, because that determines what you buy and where it goes — and it’s much easier to plan on the driveway than to re-hang everything with the bed full.
Three rules that hold on any bedside rack:
- Heavy goes low and forward. A bedside panel puts weight high and outboard, which is the worst place for it. Recovery gear, fluids, and anything dense belongs at the bottom of the pattern and toward the cab.
- Frequently used goes where you can reach it from outside the bed. The Slate’s bed is 5 feet; you can reach a lot from the side, but not everything. Put the first-aid kit and the strap bag where you don’t have to climb in.
- Sharp and expensive gets captured, not hung. Axes, shovels, and saws go in clamps that positively grip them. Tools you’d hate to lose go behind a lock mount, not in an open pouch.

Why the block-and-slot pattern takes more than pouches
Because it’s two mounting systems in one panel: standard MOLLE/PALS spacing for soft goods, plus horizontal slots sized for common 1/4-inch mounting hardware.
A plain MOLLE grid only really does one thing well — it takes webbing-backed pouches that weave through the rows. That’s great for soft storage and useless for a traction board mount or a PACKOUT plate. BuiltRight’s pattern adds slots between the blocks, so hard mounts bolt straight through and clamp down, and they can slide along the slot to land exactly where you want them instead of snapping to a fixed grid.
