Does the Slate come with a charging cable?
Yes — and it covers both Level 1 and Level 2, with no extra equipment to buy. This is the single most useful thing on this page and it's easy to miss, because it is not how most EVs are sold.
A lot of manufacturers ship a Level 1 "granny cable" that plugs into a household outlet and charges slowly, then sell you a wall box separately if you want Level 2 speed. Slate's included cable handles both: plug it into a standard household outlet for Level 1, or into a 240V appliance-type outlet for Level 2 at 25–35 miles per hour.
The practical consequence for your budget: if you already have a 240V outlet where you park — a dryer or welder circuit, say — you may need to spend nothing at all to charge at Level 2 speed. That is a genuinely different starting position from most EV purchases, and it reframes the wall charger decision entirely. What 65 kWh and 205 miles mean together
Roughly 3.15 miles per kWh at the rated figure — a reasonable efficiency for a truck-shaped vehicle, and a useful sanity check when you see range claims elsewhere.
The more important point is what isn't on the menu: there is no long-range pack. Slate consolidated an earlier two-battery plan (52.7 kWh and 84.3 kWh, floated April 2025) into this single 65 kWh option. If 205 miles doesn't fit your driving, there is no upgrade path within the model — that's a buying decision to make honestly up front rather than a spec to wait out.
Why LFP is the right call here
LFP tolerates being charged to 100% daily, which is the opposite of the advice EV owners have absorbed for a decade. That advice — the 80% ceiling — is correct for nickel-based NMC packs and does not apply to this chemistry.
There's a second, less-discussed reason to fill an LFP pack regularly: LFP has a famously flat voltage curve through the middle of its range, which makes state-of-charge estimation harder. Periodic full charges let the battery management system re-reference the top of the pack and keep the percentage on the dash honest.

What Slate hasn't published about charging
Three gaps worth knowing before you plan around them:
- No full charging curve. Slate quotes 20–80% in about 30 minutes, which is the figure that matters for a highway stop, but not the curve behind it. 120 kW is a peak and peaks taper, so cold-weather and high-state-of-charge behaviour remain unknown.
- No onboard AC charger rating. This is the figure that determines how fast a Level 2 wall box actually fills the pack overnight — the charger's kW rating is capped by the car's. Slate publishes the outcome (25–35 miles per hour on Level 2) but not the underlying kW figure, so you can plan a charge but not compare the hardware.
- No confirmed Supercharger access. The Slate uses the NACS connector, which is the plug shape Tesla's network uses. Connector compatibility and network access are separate questions, and Slate has not confirmed an agreement either way. Do not plan a road trip around it yet.
